Notizen zu William Frederick Kemper:
William F. Kemper, proprietor of the Waseca Greenhouse from 1895 until 1945, died at 1:15 Friday afternoon, April 9, at his home on 10th Ave. N. W. Mr. Kemper was taken to Memorial hospital March 10 after suffering a heart seizure. After 17 days, he was released from the hospital and had been cared for at his home since that time. It was while Mr. Kemper was a patient at the hospital that he noted his 89th birthday. A native of Hermann, Missouri, William Frederick Kemper was born March 21, 1865. He was one of seven children born to the late Christoph and Johanna Berger Kemper, and lived to be the last survivor of their family. Mr. Kemper saw Waseca for the first time when he was a boy, as he made a stop-off here while enroute to New Ulm to work for an uncle. He remained there for only a short time before returning to Waseca. For four years, he was employed at the mill and later worked at the light plant for four years. On Sept. 10, 1892 he purchased the lot where, in 1895, he established the greenhouse which he operated for 50 years. On Feb. 15, 1898, he was married to Alvina Weckwerth. She died with a baby on June 6, 1901. Two years later, on Feb. 24, 1903, he married Julia Vath whose home town was LeSueur Center. They had no children and she passed away on Dec. 22, 1928. Mr. Kemper was a lifetime member of the Evangelical United Brethren church. Even after his retirement, he also continued raising plants as a business hobby. The Rev. Ezra Budke will officiate at the funeral which is being held at 1:00 p. m. today, Tuesday, from Salem Evangelical United Brethren church. Interment will be in Woodville cemetery. Jesse Draheim, Elmer Bathke, Leonard Bathke, Ted Malloy, George Sutter and Aaron Wolters will serve as pall bearers.
